They opened for Ray Charles, appeared on The Jane Pauley Show, and were nominated for three Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Now you can hear the ladies of Key of She demonstrate their latest soul sounds on their second CD, In The Key of She. Female a cappella never sounded so good!
Their latest CD shows how a sextet of talented altos and some accomplished arrangers can reinterpret a bunch of terrific cover songs in the a cappella genre. Their music is fresh, entertaining and seductive.
Key of She, through performing and recording, has expanded the traditional a cappella repertoire of classic American Songbook, Broadway, and popular to include jazz, rock, and country. Like other groups today, the singers use their voices to imitate drums and a variety of instruments in the type of “vocal percussion” popularized by Bobby McFerrin. The album, which was produced by Jeff Thacher of Rockapella, is also technically superb, and it doesn't hurt that Jeff, a world-class beatboxer, held the ladies to high vocal percussion standards.
This CD by the soulful ladies of Central New Jersey is a bit different than their first. As the group has matured and performed everywhere from Virginia to Maine (but mostly in New Jersey and Pennsylvania!), their music has evolved into a textured, lush, rich and full-bodied sound. These gals know how to entertain, sing in perfect pitch (without instruments!), melt hearts, and make you smile. They have more than justified their New York Regional Harmony Sweepstakes "Audience Favorite" win.
In the Key of She is the next best thing to being at one of their shows. If you can't attend, go straight to this CD!
