"Tryin' To Make a Hand" is Dean's second album. The album contains eight songs and two poems. Five of the selections were penned by Dean, and five were written by good friends of his. Most of the material on this CD deals with modern day ranching from close encounters with mountain bikes and grizzly bears to runaway milkin' cows. The album is done entirely in an acoustic setting. The only thing missing is the sound of a camp fire.
Dean Foster is a fifth generation rancher from the hills of southern New Mexico, who doubles as a western folk singer in his spare time. Dean’s original songs, poems and stories hearten a poetic and authentic depiction of real life in both the old and the new West. \"Five generations of people trying to break even in the cow business supplies one with ample material to work with.” From wild cow attacks to runaway mules, Dean’s stories provide a bit of a peek into the funny and not so funny sides of ranching.
