Phil Lewis is a instrumental rock guitarist from Birmingham UK whose music has been described as magically expressive, energetic, atmospheric and soothing. With a guitar style somewhere between Joe Satriani and Dave Gilmore, he manages to bring a unique balance of melody and heart into his playing. Phil’s musical background started at the age of 17 when he was given his first electric guitar. Influenced by players such as Jimi Page, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, he soon found himself performing with different bands in and around the Birmingham club scene. He later went on to study at the Guitar School in Birmingham where he now teaches a number of musical styles to students of mixed age and ability. His debut album ‘Without Words’ features 16 original tracks of varied rock instrumentals played on both electric and acoustic guitars. The music has so far appealed to a wide range of audience, young and old - each track drawing on a different vibe using elements of rock, blues and classical influences. The album was a solo project and features Phil Lewis playing all guitars, bass and synthesizers over a mixture of drum programs and loops. A new album is currently in production and due for release later this year. Phil Lewis is definitely a guitarist to watch out for. He puts all his effort into ‘playing for the song’ and not just for a technical display. Both his playing and songwriting skills compliment each other to give an overall great instrumental experience.
